Dissatisfied with the beginning of this painting, I abandoned it for at least two years. The color wasn't right. Then a Tongass Rainforest Festival art show prompted me to rework it. Maybe I should have titled it LeConte Resurrection. The subject is a retreating glacier that drains into the bay just seaward of LeConte Glacier itself in (suprise) LeConte Bay. I've long wanted to hike up this valley, but always feared getting trapped on the shore by ice. Since then I've heard that half the biting black flies and other biting tiny "vermin" in all of southeast Alaska must live in that valley. OK, I exaggerate, but it isn't a place to lay out in the sun to get a tan without taking precautions.
