There's a big valley south of LeConte Glacier just seaward of where the glacier terminates at the water's edge. It's one of my favorite views in the Bay. Over the years I have witnessed plant succession change the enticing valley slopes, that looked deceptively easy to traverse, into dense alder thickets. There are days when you cannot navigate by boat or kayak to this site due to the density of ice floes that calved from the glacier.
This painting is based on a photo I took of this valley on one of those days that showed the valley at it's best and there were fewer icebergs blocking access to the glacier..
